Increasing Competition in the Auto Parts Market
The auto parts industry is getting competitive with Walmart and Amazon offering auto parts and tires through their website. They have been slowly increasing the number of products offered as well. The number of Automotive parts sold by Amazon under its AmazonBasics brand tripled between the 2018-2019 period. Walmart too isn’t far behind when it comes to auto parts sold online. Walmart’s Auto & Tire is its biggest private label category, selling 5,208 products across 3 private label brands.
In addition, the rise in the number of electric cars being sold across the country also has had an effect on the auto parts industry. Electric cars are cheaper to maintain and require less maintenance compared to fuel powered vehicles, which would eat into the revenue of auto parts providers. AutoZone has managed to ride this wave by providing auto parts for Tesla’s that include brake pads, wipers, headlights, and mirror replacement glass.

AAP also owns WorldPac so that store count would bring it closer to 6000
