Dunkin’ vs. Starbucks Store Location and Per Capita Income

We also looked into how the number of stores that Dunkin’ and Starbucks have differs with respect to the per capita income of a region.

To analyze this, we got the store location details of the two coffee giants in the states with the highest per capita income and the states with the lowest per capita income.

Comparing the number of Dunkin vs. Starbucks stores in the highest per capita income states

California has the most Starbucks locations (3,117), followed by Washington (736) and New York (715). Dunkin’ Donuts, on the other hand, has the most locations in New York (1,431), followed by Massachusetts (1,047) and New Jersey (877).

Interestingly, among the top 10 US states with the highest per capita income, Wyoming has just one Dunkin’ store, and Washington has none.

Comparing the number of Dunkin vs. Starbucks stores in the lowest per capita income states

Georgia has the most number of Starbucks and Dunkin’ Donuts stores in the list of states with the least per capita income.

Starbucks has more stores among these states with the lowest per capita income.

We compared the Dunkin’ vs. Starbucks statistics of highest per capita income to least per capita income to find out that the number of stores for both of them is generally lower in the states with lower per capita income.

This suggests that both Starbucks and Dunkin’ Donuts may target wealthier areas when opening new stores. This could be because people in wealthier areas are more likely to be able to afford eating out regularly.
