A look at the Kroger stores in the US.
The fast-food industry is one of the most dominant sectors in the food and restaurant industry. Globally, the fast-food industry alone made 570 billion in 2017.
To gain some insights we gathered some data of the top fast food chains such as – Subway, McDonald’s, Burger King, Wendy’s, Starbucks, Dunkin Donuts, Dominos, Sonic Drive-In, Taco Bell, Jack in the Box and Chick-Fil-A – in the U.S. regarding the number of locations, opening hours and amenities provided.
How many locations do these chains have in the U.S.?
Above is a visual chart showing the number of locations for each fast food chain.
Although Subway has the most number of stores, it comes in third place after McDonald’s and Starbucks regarding annual profits.
Chick-Fil-A has the least number of stores but fares better in ratings, getting an 83% for customer service. Highly regarded customer service is uncommon in fast food, but Chick-Fil-A ranks at the top for customer satisfaction and has higher average unit sales than any other major chain at an estimated $4.4 million according to QSR.
McDonald’s ratings have been declining, holding the bottom spot on the American Customer Satisfaction Index
Which state in the U.S has the largest number of fast food stores?
Even though obesity attributes to unhealthy food habits (fast food), we could not find a relationship between the number of fast food stores in a state and its corresponding obesity rate. Texas, the state with the 8th highest obesity rate, comes in second place with the highest number of stores.
U.S. fast-food eateries have been dealing with slower sales in the past year. Fast-casual restaurants such as Panera Bread and Chipotle has been active the past decade and continues to strive as customers are willing to pay more for better quality food.
McDonald’s, Burger King and Wendy’s – 3 Business Battles
There are far more McDonalds than Burger Kings, and a few Wendy’s outlets when you look at the visual chart above. But having an extensive store count doesn’t necessarily mean your gaining revenue. Even though McDonald’s is the most valuable fast food brand, competition has been increasing over the years.
Regarding total annual profits, McDonald’s makes the most money ($24.6 billion in 2016) but its competitors Burger King and Wendy’s offer a full range of products resulting in higher sales per store. McDonald’s is not only a fast food business but also a real estate tycoon that makes more money buying properties than by selling burgers.
